Paseo Vista Park / Chandler Landfill

SAGE was a team member on the Paseo Vista Park / Chandler Landfill project providing landscape design services. The Chandler Landfill is owned by the City of Chandler and is a municipal solid waste landfill located approximately 4 miles southeast of downtown Chandler and is approximately 66-acres in size.

The City of Chandler Landfill reached its final capacity and was completely filled and ready for final closure in 2005. Based upon the Solid Waste Facility Plan, the Landfill consists of approximately 63- acres of fill area.

Of this area, only a small portion, less than 10-acres, was previously closed. The currently approved final cover configuration consisted of a geo-synthetic clay liner based system; which is quite costly when most landfills in Arizona have been converting to less costly, environmentally effective, soil-only final covers. The closure plan indicated that the landfill be re-vegetated upon closure, but was not specific regarding the Landfill’s end use. The City has decided that the ultimate end use will be some form of alternative recreational use.
