Juan Bautista de AnzaPima County, Arizona
Juan Bautista de Anza is a National Historic Trail, being developed from San Blas, Mexico to San Francisco, California. The US Department of the Interior's National Parks Service has established the route, while local jurisdictions administer the design and build the trails.
SAGE has been selected by Pima County Natural Resources Parks & Recreation to lead the planning, public outreach, and design of the first segment of this trail through Pima County funded by Federal Transportation Enhancement funds. Coordination with multiple agencies and the public is key to project success. Trail components include interpretive signage; custom ranch-style ramadas; custom designed portals; multi-use trails to accommodate bikes, walkers and equestrians; parking/staging area, kiosks, planting and irrigation. Challenges SAGE handles include providing continuous ADA compliant accessibility while maintaining the rural character of the Santa Cruz River location and protecting the numerous historic and cultural resources throughout the 5 mile length of the project.
