Feliz Paseos Universal Accessibility Park

Pima County, Arizona

SAGE provided master planning and construction document preparation for a universally accessible trail system in an ecologically rich 50-acre natural desert park in the Tucson Mountains. Design includes trail layout and associated pedestrian amenities for hiking, wildlife viewing, parking, and rest rooms. Plans for this state of the art recreational facility were developed using newly proposed Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA) Guidelines for Outdoor Recreational Areas, key input from focus committee members with varying disabilities, and Pima County staff. Trail route selection was accomplished through the use of topographic maps and field surveys, identifying key points of the project site and trail system with Global Positioning System (GPS) coordinates.

This project received the 2006 Common Gold Award for Innovation in Architecture.
