Flowing Wells Community CenterTucson, Arizona![]()
This important community center was driven by enormous neighborhood and Board of Supervisor support, which was a positive force for design. The site is composed of 3 sites separated by the realignment of two intersecting urban roadways. The challenge was comprehensively designing for multiple community uses on three sites bisected by transportation corridors. Key to success is the consideration of pedestrian safety, visibility and traffic circulation throughout the 3 sites. This was addressed in the master plan through extensive coordination with the community and the agencies, soliciting feedback on bus routes, bike routes, neighborhood access, user needs, buffering and the overall cohesiveness of the image. The final master plan was approved by the community and brought forward for funding. The community center was completed in October of 2007.
