This project includes master planning, design development and construction documents for this park and includes ball fields, amphitheater, children’s play area, open turf areas, lighted multi-use trails, parking, concession stand, restrooms, ramadas, and interpretive exhibits. A master plan for a Tohono O’odham health clinic and staff housing, to include all site work, circulation and community facilities. The clinic entry plaza features a basket weave paving pattern, complimented by a tree-planting plan that accentuates the basket weave. Separate outdoor spaces are provided for after-hours use of meeting rooms and for employee break, lunch, and informal gatherings. MORE

SAGE is assisting the Navajo Nation for the design of a Master Plan for Monument Valley Tribal Park. The Master Plan will enhance the Park's unique sense of place, so that the development will instill great civic pride and become an important part of Monument Valley. SAGE is assisting the project architect with the development of the Master Plan which include enlarged plans and concept sketches of entry drive features, interpretive elements, plaza space and courtyard, RV parking, campgrounds, hiking and jogging trails as well as equestrian facilities. Ak-Chin Industrial Park

SAGE is working with the Ak Chin Indian Community and a multi-disciplinary design team to renovate the existing industrial center. Landscape architectural tasks include streetscape, planting design, entry monumentation, perspective illustrations for public presentation and irrigation design. Streetscape design is based on first defining themes for different types of streets, which visually expresses street hierarchy. Entry monumentation further defines the theme and image which is appropriate for the uses. Close coordination with the Tribe and the design team are critical to project success. SAGE led the inventory, assessment, public involvement and master plan to fold a Native American Interpretive site and program into an existing site and living history program for interpreting European settlement on the Ranch. We coalesced high profile public involvement, through stakeholder and public meetings into a successful park program. Planning and design documentation addressed master plan revisions including historically accurate portrayal of imagery, landscape and structural elements specific to native culture and life-style during the period from 1775-1835. Desert Rock Energy Project

At the request of the Navajo Nation, Brad conducted a peer review of seven cultural resource survey reports associated with the proposed Desert Rock Energy Project. This project involves the construction of a coal-fired power plant within the Burnham/Nenahnezad Chapter of the Navajo Nation, San Juan County, New Mexico, per the project development agreement entered into with Diné Power Authority. SAGE’s work is in support of an Environmental Impact Statement being prepared by the Bureau of Indian Affairs Navajo Regional Office and URS Corporation. MORE

SAGE designed the landscape for this complex located in the Three Points Fire District and the Tohono O’odham Reservation. The facility included an outdoor plaza unifying the entire complex and three separate patio areas for the Fire Station, Training and Administration buildings. MORE

Government Complex

SAGE has been selected to assist with the Master Planning of the new government complex for the San Xavier District of the Tohono O’odham Nation. Services include developing a historic and prehistoric time line to be used to define art, culture and spiritual elements to be incorporated in the design. Landscape architectural services include outdoor courtyards, pedestrian circulation, linage to adjacent land uses and xeric-plant materials design. MORE

SAGE led agency coordination with two districts of the Tohono O’odham Nation and the Tribal Council on this pavement overlay project in southern Arizona. In addition to project scoping and coordination, environmental compliance documentation was prepared. MORE

 

Manzanita Greenway Master Plan

Pima County, Arizona

Pima County Natural Resources Parks & Recreation requested assistance with the master planning of a two-mile segment of greenway adjacent to Westover Road at the base of the Tucson Mountain range. The greenway extends from Manzanita Park south to Valencia Road. Adjacent land uses include residential/commercial mix, Tohono O’odham swap meet, and nearby schools. Challenges included numerous road crossings, degraded vegetation, security and safety and connectivity with the neighborhoods and the regional trail system. Solutions included traffic calming, enhanced vegetation for habitat creation, recreation, and trail design to eliminate conflicts. MORE

Ambulatory Care Center

Gila River Indian Reservation

Project includes landscape for a new health care center on the Gila River Indian Reservation. In keeping with the healthcare function of the building, the landscape will provide a comfortable and harmonious setting for patients, their families, visitors and staff. To accomplish this goal the plan will use native plants, materials reminiscent of nature and patterns reflective of basketry. The majority of the plants will be species found within the Sonoran desert with priority given to local plants. The courtyard plantings will include plants that provide sensory interest through colors, forms or textures. Plants with scented blossoms or leaves will be included. MORE

 

Chinle Diabetes Wellness Center

This project consisted of the expansion of an existing medical facility using planting, irrigation and hardscape design for an extremely arid, challenging region in Northern Arizona. Native and indigenous plant materials, conforming to Navajo cultural guidelines, were used throughout the project. MORE
