TUCSON, ARIZONA

SAGE collaborated with the architect, civil engineer and artist to jointly create a unique outdoor public gathering space in the central plaza area between three buildings.

A riverbed theme was developed in the plaza. A streambed-paving pattern begins at the entry and allows the user to float along the meandering path through the central plaza. The theme was further enhanced by the use of trees that would naturally line a river.

As a portion of this site is located on a landfill, SAGE researched and proposed methods of remediation that conform to the local planning and zoning requirements.

Four (4) monolithic prehistoric Hohokam figurines made from natural materials are featured in the central plaza. Their materials are consistent with the local volcanic colored material used in the building and the paving. Also, SAGE designed a fog system to create a misty feel surrounding the thunder ball monolith.
