Hope VI 10th Avenue EnhancementsTucson, ARizona
This award-winning project included streetscape design and pedestrian enhancements, incorporation of public art, and bicycle paths for a low-income housing district located in historic Tucson. Although this is a local city street, pedestrians and alternate transportation modes are the key users. SAGE worked with the design team to implement design features that created a hierarchy for pedestrians, linking the neighborhood with the school and park. Bringing plants in toward the street, creating visually distinct segments of the road, designing islands and raised pedestrian tables achieved traffic calming and neighborhood unity. This project involved Federal and Local Enhancement Funding. SAGE met the City requirements for native plant inventory and documentation, which included a pre-submittal meeting with City staff to strategize the approach. This project also meets ADA requirements with ramped sidewalks at street crossings.
